Neutron stars are one of the most extreme and violent things in the universe. Giant atomic nuclei, only a few kilometers in diameter but as massive as stars. And they owe their existence to the death of something majestic.

From the beginning to the death of the universe it is but a fleeting moment to the conciousness that spawned existence.

  • 6:00 Spacetime wouldn't cause "friction" (i.e lose energy) if two stars were falling towards each other. Maybe if they interfered with each others gravitational waves, but it's not a loss of energy in the sense of motion. Unless it loses matter, other than flinging it out when they arrive together (which would be negligible). What does he mean by ripple away gravitational waves? Gravity itself is a force, it can't be dissipated like hawking radiation. I'd like a genuine discussion if possible, this is interesting. Wonder why he phrased it that way.
