When it comes 90s PC game MIDI soundtracks, you can't really go wrong with a Roland Sound Canvas. And this lovely ST version of the SC-55 is a downright delightful choice! All those excellent SC sound samples in a clean, simplified package.

  • What's the story on Edirol? I use the VST in FL Studio, it's one of my absolute favorites, but has become kinda hard to find. It's kind of a multi-instrument bundle with a great piano. It changes with velocity. I wonder if it was supposed to go with all of this midi stuff?

  • Can you make music with the ST?

  • Altec Lansing... oh, God... that brings back so many memories. Back then, if you wanted good PC speakers, it was Altec Lansing or nothing else. I had to settle for Genius or A4Tech... I couldn't afford Altec Lansing. That being said, I love your Roland speakers which I'm sure were very high end in their time. Roland was a trusted, high-end brand for audio stuff

  • I never heard Duke3D sounding so... great! On my old PC was so annoying that I was turning off the music. Side note: "Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth engine has been part of the core Windows operating System since Windows 98. It was licensed from Roland in 1996 and based upon a sound set they created in 1991. The only change or update it’s received since then is moving from 32 note polyphony to 64 note polyphony with the arrival of Windows XP in 2001. It’s still there, in Windows 10 today."

  • Here is a random question...I have a yamaha midi keyboard with input and output midi. I found it in LA next to a garbage can. I took it home and fixed it. Could that be used like the roland main model device? I know i would need a pc midi interface for midi IO but just wondering what cool stuff could be done with it. I had grabbed it to use with my commodore 64 and that cool rare full sized keyboard which i managed to find for the 64 which hooks to the user and joystick port.

  • Questionable device design. How could they not include some Line input and a mixer? This was meant for usage on gaming computers which meant there always was some other sound source making sound effects. For a practical setup you need an additional external mixer, which makes the headphone jack useless.

  • My first experience with Duke Nukem was the first one because my dad played it on his PC, but I actually didn't really get into a Duke Nukem game until the Duke 3d port to the N64. Honestly for years I assumed it was only on the N64 and when I realized I was wrong it was the first time In my life began looking Into ports and realizing there was a difference between game developers and publishers.

  • Bit clean and sterile for me, I prefer something a bit more filthy and distorted, like the sound chip on a Mega-Drive. I'm pretty sure some of those MIDI tracks are meant to sound like distorted electric guitars, but accurately rendedred on expensive hardware, actually come out as things like saxophones etc.
