Unboxing, setting up, and testing out a Star Micronics NX-2420 dot matrix printer! And yes, it is capable of printing in color on either single sheet printer paper or fan-fold tractor feed paper. Classic.

  • wen you put color cartrige you ave a hole for a pin that tel the printer its a colors cartrige, in fact they use fujitsu(onkio) for the MSI computer more popular in japan. cartrige as they dont sell those in america then,,,, star rent the printer head and catrige from them... they wheyre nearly identical and cost less, 4$ for the fujitsu (they sell them in japan nearly five years before) and as it was 20$ for the star. just a hole was in diferent place, we ave a specal cutter (black market hack) to cut the figitsu for fitting on the stars. that was also sell by brand name Comodoe and sell whit the amiga 500 for a time . y was working for comodore then, so we ave acces to original maker. i imagine in japan they still sell the cartrige since they ave more model of printer whit the same color ribon, just check if the yelleow is the same place, at the end 1996 they put on the marker cartrige nearly idetical but put yellow in the to twice as large since yellow endup dirty verry fast so they kind of solve it in using twice as large the yellow band. after 1996 y stop working for comodore so y lost access and use HPdeskjet color then... personaly y use to install GEOS-ensemble from berkley on comodore PC, that printer was support by the ensemble from the start as color printer (i still ave my original set of disk GEOS ensemble beta. 99 sent to tech everywheyre then) i print banner from time to time to fax my boss at comodore, thing like a group of monkey whit a message call my back, wen our shipment arrive half missing or like usual, some of th e amiga recyve wheyre whit missing part, it was frequent to recyve a shipment of amiga 500 whit the denise chip or other part missing. we ave to open eatch new computer, hopen the case to see if all the part wheyre theyre. not to say those banner wheyre usualy not love letter...i still smile wen y think of the secretary that recyve a 8 feet fax of monkey, hungry monkey....

  • I know this is an older video, but I hope someone can answer this. Why did all these old printers say "Multi-Font" in their name? Did PC's back then not have any fonts built in? You had to rely on the printer to provide the fonts? Times were weird back then..........

  • Lol glad im not the only one that still has a liking towards the old stuff. I always liked the sound of the old printers. And i still have that same packard bell monitor. First screen i played doom, heretic, duke 3d, and rott on. Hard to believe all these things are from so long ago when it feels like yesterday. Back when cd.. was something everyone knew. I do kinda miss hearing hard drive heads sweeping. Still have one of those pc power "strips" too...the one youd set the monitor on top of and had an individual toggle switch for monitor pc speakers etc. Good old days.

  • Great vid and oh heck sure brings back memories ☺☺The drivers were always top dollar and if you took time out to write your own source code you could generate an onscreen program that allowed you to change a multitude of type faces and sizes at the click of preset F keys. Awesome. Build quality was always excellent and the actual cable interface though unique at the time with that blue socket et could be used later on for the newer printers.

I was hooked up to my Commodore Amiga 500+ and Deluxe Paint III worked fine with it. I never fully understood the button panel before now - so thanks for that. I remember the button overlay card but never understood it as I did not read English yet.

  • I so wanted one of these back in the day. I had a really, really crappy Okidata Thermal printer. They were awful. The print heads wore out after about 100 pages (and were $40 a pop in 1988) and you couldn't find flat thermal paper. True Story, determined to make the best of a bad situation I would buy rolls of 8" thermal paper, print my homework, then take the rolls, cut 11" pages out of them, and put a heavy dictionary on the pages until they (more or less) were flat. I can't imagine the teachers liked that but they never complained.
