World's Lightest Solid!
Aerogels are the world's lightest (least dense) solids. They are also excellent thermal insulators and have been used in numerous Mars missions and the Stardust comet particle-return mission. The focus of this video is silica aerogels, though graphene aerogels are now technically the lightest.
At one point Dr. Steven Jones literally held the Guinness World Record for making the lightest aerogel and therefore lightest solid. If you're interested in learning more about aerogels, let me know in the comments as there is a potential trilogy in the works...

It's amazing but my brain can't comprehend
aeroel function=hard to burn
Subnautica players: I've seen that one
Would it ever find use in medicine?
bob lazar lab created that right!
Since aerogel can be made from a variety of materials...what about a graphene aerogel or polymer? Would that even be possible, this must have been considered already..
Perfect insulation for my house.
You can see the terror in Mrs Bunnys eyes. Watching MR Bunny being cooked over a bunsen burner. She knows what time it is

Is it edible? I really wanna chew it!😁
So there's only one other person commenting about wanting to eat it?
My hair is lighter than that
Fun fact Aerogel is not a conductor cuz it has air And air is a bad conductor
Everything was so good but why only the rabbit was victimised for the experiment.. Rip rabbit🥺

Cost? How much would it be to use it as window for a house? Assuming you would have to put it in between glass layers to resist breaking and weather (rain)...
Where can I BUY THIS Aerogel ????? I WANT IT
you can make it by 2 rubies
hey bro im from iran and i love you for upload video to persian ❤❤
My Ph. D work thesis with this material and how can i. Control with pH for TEOS & TMOS WAS SO HARDBWITH WORK BUT really its awesome material
Hashish is lighter 🤣
Quite a comment at 6:26. Might there be a natural affinity towards God when encountering 'awe'? After 40 years in Alaska I notice that moose do not experience 'awe'. Just people.
My think is more dense than this thing!!!
Fun fact: 10kg of the lightest material is the same weight as 10kg of bricks Convert to imperial if you can americans
why do i want to eat it

I want to eat that for some reason
want to smoke that air to get high
I mean paper is the slightest solid? like tear into really small! I mean it should be
..en 20" afirma que si quita todo el aire seria menos denso que el aire... entonces no debiera flotar, elevarse en la atmósfera??? ..in 20 "affirms that if you remove all the air it would be less dense than air ... then it should not float, rise in the atmosphere ???
i watched this because i thought it was just an edit, and boy i was proven wrong
ahhh the days before having to wear masks
Pekopekopeko QAQ
so this is a solid?
Wwooooohhhhh

could it be used to construct an see through plane skin? or added to tank armor to dampen Monroe effect? bazooka/rpg hits outer skin to absorb impact; then aerogel douses the chemical flame. better than that - coating on bottom of vehicles to deflate IED. SAVE LIVES!
I've found Elon Musk.
SUbscribe to the channel and this "might" be the next part of the trilogy. LOL bad manners.. give the last part first, then I subscribe..

lays have more air.
I remember when I 1st watched a documentary when NASA used the aero gel on SOHO , I thought it was capturing the particles blasted off of the sun , but you said it was off a comet . Also , I remember watching another documentary on the man who " supposedly " was the 1st person to invent it , who was an Asian man . Wow , I was surprised to hear here that it was invented in the 30's . Nonetheless, my impression of the material stii is in complete amazement & awe . I knew when I 1st saw it , all the wonderful capabilities it can , & 1 day be used for ! Truely , 1 of the best inventions of my time if not the past millennium
just wondering how is it taste
Schools ordering toilet paper be like We will the whole stock !!

i wanna eat it so bad
I still cant lift that...
A cube of glass of that size with thin walls is also 99 percent air and has same weight
But it is filled with air
It looks like solid smoke.
Joseph Seed has gained weight and making aerogel? this can't be good 😲

What a waste of chocolate
I thought the lightest solid was plastic
Air still most lightest thing in the world
Thanks information
According to director Pete Docter, this material inspired the look of the souls in Pixar's Soul movie.
I saw that! It makes sense...they look like this light airy material. Almost translucent.
@Liam the f**k does the FBI have to do with that
@M Khan why u asking this guy
I am interested in different kinds of aerogel for insulation... is there a phone number I can contact?

Can the pores in Aerogel be backfilled with helium to the point where the solid aerogel floats in 1ATM air?
Wonder if it would have enhanced properties in respect to its use as a type of soundproofing..
@Andy Panter Hydrogen is very dangerous to handle lol. I think airships like the Hindenberg used Hydrogen, hence why it burst into flames after the crash.
"Unfortunately,, even the lightest aerogels, even if evacuated or backfilled with helium, would be too heavy to float in air, especially if laminated to seal the outer edges of the monolith. However, a helium-backfilled aerogel can be made to float if dropped into an aquarium filled with a dense gas such as xenon." *wonders about hydrogen...*
Can I EAT it
This is the kind of smoking bunny I'm fine with.
