  • I cannot, for the life of me, remove the rubber boot/sleeve covering the piston. The piston is removed, but the rubber is stucked/glued to the caliper. :((( This is probably due to the oven temperature when it was powdercoated with the old internals. Any advice? I NEED HELP!

  • If the piston isn't seized up and you are replacing the seals, have someone press the brakes with caliper still on the car, but with brake pads removed. It will be pushed out.

    Eileen DoverEileen DoverMiesiąc temu
  • HOLY FUCK ... Rebuilt many a caliper over the years and that is not how you remove a caliper piston .. you fill area in front of piston with wadded up towel to cushion the piston when you apply compressed wir with a air gun into the brake bleeder hole you just removed the bleeder from .. the air will make the piston fly the fuck out with massive force hence the reason for wadded up towel to catch the piston and prevent damage to it and keep your fucking fingers away from where the piston will come out if you don't want to have them severed . is this method dangerous ? you betcha but its simply how its done using vise grips will damage the piston use only in severe case where air will not work because your probably got a galled piston anyway

  • I thought this was an excellent vid. However, I stopped it at 5:35 to comment. 1) Instead of using masking tape to plug the bolt and bleeder hole's, just re-install the bolt and bleeder! 2) clean oil off the piston cup, apply a bit of masking tape, re-install piston cup just with light tape friction so the piston does not move. >>>> Then sandblast till your hearts content! At 10:30, I would strongly suggest that you do one of two things. A) Use your Red Grease to coat the threads of the new bleeder screw, or B) Apply a bit of anti seize to the bleeder screw threads! Water/moisture has an uncanny way of getting into those threads and rusting. Anti seize will allow easier undoing and bleeding in the future!!! Also add a bit of anti seize to the bracket bolt! Cheers

  • One mistake, and that others will surely make. Did not inspect piston bore for pitting and scoring. A new piston and seal will fail quickly if these conditions are present. I have done the same myself over 35 years ago. I had to clean and hone the bore to ensure a good seal.

  • Here's one piece of advice, you should do the majority of your cleaning and blasting with the old seals and piston in place. This will help seal and protect the piston surfaces far more than anything you can apply.

    Mr XMr X3 miesięcy temu
  • Good video. SUGGESTION: Sandblast BEFORE disassembly. That saves you the job of plugging/protecting the surfaces that can't be hit by the sandblaster.

  • Many thanks for doing this and really good film, and all credit to you. Instead of compressed air at 3.26, I used a stirrup bicycle pump to get the piston out. I used the Schrader end over the bleeder valve which fitted the bleeder valve end and which was partially open to allow air in And covered the other end with my thumb Pumped the stirup biciyle pump and the piston came out

Maybe makes sense if you have a car for which spare parts are pretty expensive or you want to change the colour of your calipers otherwise I wouldn't bother...

    Erik AlbersErik Albers7 miesięcy temu
    • Hi there! Red rubber grease was included in repair kit. But if you need to buy one, buy silicone grease for brake piston. It's better, safe for rubber elements and its more greasy. Also you can use brake fluid, it's oily too and safe for rubber elements as well Regards :)
